there is recreation out the door and more recreation within a short drive.
out the door:
- the surrounding terrain allows for beautiful, hiking, mountain biking, backcountry skiing and snow shoeing.
as the okanogan national forest boundary rests mere feet from the
back porch, the options for exploring are nearly limitless.
within a short drive:
- fly fishing: the methow river cuts through the valley. it is a fantastic trout and steelhead stream,
though regulations must be carefully read. access is an easy 15 minute drive down the hill to the main
road. for information on guide service, see north cascades fly fishing.
- white water rafting: the methow provides good whitewater opportunities during spring and early summer
runoff. for information see osprey river adventures.
- local ski hill: if you'd prefer to downhill ski at a facility, there's nothing better than
the loup loup. the drive is about 40 minutes.
- biking: the methow valley sports trails association has done a good job mapping out the
best mountain bike and road bike routes in the valley.
- groomed x-country skiing: the methow is most famous for its x-country facilities.
the groomed trail system is within a one hour drive. visit the methow valley sports trails association (mvsta)
for location and pass information.
- hiking: the lake chelan-sawtooth wilderness area is a short drive away. it includes
several wonderful hikes. at a greater distance are north cascades national park,
ross lake recreation area, and the pasayten wilderness. the best place to learn about hikes in this area is "100 hikes in
washington's north cascades national park region," by ira spring and harvey manning. this book is available
from mountaineers books and can be found in most washington outdoor stores.
